Dyslexia and Online Coursework
This project is actually very personal for me. Both of my children, Hannah -
age 10 and Sam age - age 7, are dyslexic.
Since I teach vocal music, piano, 3D modeling and animation, digital graphics,
audio/video editing and web page design, there are no jobs like these close to home.
Consequently, I have to commute two hours/day. My children need me to be
accessible so I can help them and intervene. Teaching online would make that
possible.
Also, my children will need electives that are dyslexia friendly when they advance to
secondary school. Small schools like ours simply are not able to afford
diversity. I believe all kids need electives so school can be a place where
they follow their dreams. Dyslexic children, with their propensity for
creativity need these alternatives even more.
Does your school have classes designed to reach dyslexic students? Do they use a multisensory approach? Or is every child expected to read to learn, even if their their intelligence is far above their reading ability?
